Dear Joanne
Your questions, her wisdom—Joanne’s here with thoughtful advice, warm humor, and a listening ear for whatever’s on your mind.

Hello everyone! First, I would like to wish all Dads out there a very happy Father’s Day! Definitely one of the hardest jobs out there. Whatever your plans are, I hope they include rest, relaxation, family, friends and food!
Not only would I like to acknowledge the traditional Dads we all know and love, but also step-dads, grandfathers, uncles, teachers, and anyone who helped us along the way when we needed a father figure. I grew up raised by a single mom, so on Father’s Day, I always did something special for my Mom as well. This weekend, I will look to the heavens and give a special nod to my Mom who served as an excellent mom AND dad to me, especially when I needed her the most. While you contemplate the memories that makes Father’s Day special you to, why don’t you drop me a line and share your thoughts!
I write this column this week after completing an eight hour road trip with my husband as we head out to vacation. Let me repeat that - - eight hour road trip with my husband. I drove the whole way while my husband critiqued my driving skills. [Sign] We will be spending two days near the Jersey Shore, and then off to another vacation spot for the rest of the week. I will update you next column on my adventure. Here’s to sunny and warm weather for all!
I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to say hello and express your enjoyment of this column. For those that asked Jay if I am a real person, yes I am! I thank Jay for the opportunity to work with him, and for the honor to meet each and every one of you though print.
This week’s question comes from Ana:
I retired at 63 but now few years later I am a little sorry. I am healthy but miss the comradery i used to have with my co-workers. I keep busy but structure is not there like I had when I had a full time job. thinking of going back part time. and the money would help because I think we are all feeling the pinch these days. - Ana
Ana – Thank you for your question and comment regarding the trials and tribulations of the retirement process. Retirement certainly is not an easy decision. And once we take that step, there is always the possibility we look in the rear-view mirror and question our decisions. I understand your position. My thoughts are: If you feel comfortable taking on a part-time job to fill in some of the open time in your calendar, then you should go for it! Sometimes, a job is an opportunity to use our social skills and develop work friendships along the way. Certainly there is nothing wrong with that. In addition, if you feel earning a little extra funding would take some pressure off of your shoulder, that is an added bonus. Everyone needs to find what works for them and run with it. It is nice to have options and you seem like you have the choices that will make you happy in the long run.
Hope everyone has a great week!
Until next time, where every goodbye is just a promise of a new hello,
Joanne

Timeless Talent, Still Stealing the Spotlight
There’s something comforting—and downright thrilling—about seeing the stars you grew up watching still lighting up the silver screen. Whether it’s their signature charm, seasoned skill, or the fact that they’ve simply gotten better with age, many legendary actors from the '60s, '70s, and '80s are proving that talent truly stands the test of time.
Take Helen Mirren, for instance. Now in her late 70s, she’s as commanding as ever. From her recent role as Queenie in Fast X to her powerful portrayal of Golda Meir in Golda, she continues to show the range and elegance that made her a household name decades ago.
Harrison Ford, still every bit the rugged hero, returned as Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny at age 80. The film may have brought a nostalgic tear or two, but it also reminded us why we fell in love with adventure in the first place. And he’s not slowing down—Ford is now starring in the Yellowstone spin-off series 1923, alongside another icon, Dame Helen Mirren.
And how about Jane Fonda? Whether she’s starring in laugh-out-loud comedies like Book Club: The Next Chapter or using her voice to advocate for the environment, she remains a force of nature—poised, powerful, and still delivering memorable performances.
Michael Douglas and Annette Bening also continue to impress with recent work in acclaimed films and shows like The Kominsky Method and Nyad. Their performances remind us that experience brings a depth and gravitas you simply can’t fake.
These artists aren’t just still working—they’re evolving, inspiring, and redefining what aging in Hollywood looks like. Their continued success is a lovely reminder that passion doesn’t retire, and neither does greatness.
So next time you’re picking a movie, consider watching one that features a familiar face from your youth—still doing what they do best. You might just feel a spark of that same magic that first drew you to the movies all those years ago.

Before You Move: Make Sure Your Furry Friend Is Welcome, Too!
Moving to a new home is an exciting adventure, but when you have a beloved pet, it requires a bit more thoughtful planning. Ensuring your furry friend is truly welcome means understanding pet policies in advance—this includes any size or breed restrictions and getting all the important details in writing. Being upfront with landlords or community boards, providing vet records, and offering extra deposits can help make the transition smoother. It’s also important to ask about walking areas, cleaning fees, and refundable deposits to avoid any surprises after you move in.
For those with service animals or emotional support pets, knowing your rights and having proper documentation is essential. Treating your pet’s needs with the same care as your own will help you find a home where both of you can feel comfortable and happy. After all, pets are family, and they deserve a safe, welcoming space to settle into alongside you.

Slang Phrase of the Day
Phrase: Don’t go there
Meaning: Nowadays, you say, “Just stop,” or, “OMG enough!” However, in the 90s, you’d tell someone, “Don’t go there.” This 90s slang means “that is enough”, or, “I don’t want to talk about it”. It is a road you don’t want to go down.
In a sentence: “When it comes to gossip about neighbors, my advice is simple: don’t go there—it’s better to focus on the positive and keep your peace of mind.”
Good News of the Day
Chandler Teen's Honesty Earns Him Dream Electric Bike
In Chandler, Arizona, 14-year-old Cody Chalmers found a lost wallet containing $300 and credit cards while riding his bike on May 2. Instead of keeping the money, he chose to return it, believing the owner would be upset if they lost it. His mother helped track down the wallet's owner using the ID, and Cody was praised for his honesty. Moved by his good deed, a stranger who learned about the story decided to reward Cody by purchasing the electric dirt bike he had been saving for. The bike was from a company named "Integrity E-bikes," making the gesture even more fitting. Cody now rides his new bike around Chandler, embodying the values of honesty and kindness.
