Staying Safe Online: How To Spot And Avoid Scams
The internet has become an integral part of our daily lives, offering convenience, connection, and entertainment. However, it’s also a place where scammers and cybercriminals operate. As a senior, you might feel particularly vulnerable to these online threats. But don’t worry! With some knowledge and simple precautions, you can enjoy the benefits of the internet while keeping yourself safe.
In this guide, we’ll explore some essential tips to help you spot potential scams and protect your online presence. Let’s dive in!
Why Online Safety is Crucial
Before we get to our safety tips, let’s understand why online safety is particularly important for RH members:
Targeted Scams: Unfortunately, scammers often see seniors as easy targets.
Valuable Information: Seniors often have substantial savings and good credit, making them attractive to identity thieves.
Less Tech-Savvy: Some seniors may be less familiar with technology, making it easier for scammers to trick them.
Loneliness: Scammers may prey on seniors who are isolated or lonely.

Our Favorite Comments:
“My teenage years to make amends to those that I feel I did wrong and be a better friend. Study harder in school and not take my parents for granted. To love and be loved ”
“At 74 I found the love of my life and we're enjoying the best life can offer!”
“Although I would like to revisit my 30's or 40's, for more energy, it would not do any good. I was not living in this house (renovating) and was not with my current wife (wouldn't give that up).”
“The 40s was when I realized at work that ‘No’ was an answer I was more comfortable using with my boss and peers, so I did. GameChanger ”
While we can’t publish them all, we do read and appreciate every comment. Some comments are edited to make room for more contributions.

Aging Voyager 1 Restarts a Radio it Hasn’t Used Since 1981–Prompted from 15 Billion Miles Away
Can you believe it? NASA’s Voyager 1, launched in 1977 and now a whopping 15 billion miles from Earth, just restarted a radio that hasn't been used since the Reagan era! After a brief communications hiccup, the team was able to send a signal using a backup radio—how cool is that? It’s a true testament to human ingenuity and the relentless spirit of exploration. “We never know for sure what’s going to happen with the Voyagers, but it constantly amazes me when they just keep going,” said the project manager.
