By: Daniel Rolph

In Hidden Paths, Emma’s voice rises from the shadows. A survivor of neglect and trauma, she battles the ghosts of her past while searching for identity, love, and healing. Inspired by true experiences within the foster care system, Daniel Rolph’s powerful sequel is a story of resilience, courage, and hope.

On this day in 1797, the USS Constitution was launched in Boston Harbor, marking the debut of what would become the world’s oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat. Nicknamed “Old Ironsides” for her resilience in battle, the ship famously deflected British cannonballs during the War of 1812, solidifying her legendary status. Designed to outmatch enemy frigates in both speed and firepower, she became a symbol of American strength and innovation at sea. Today, the Constitution remains docked in Boston as a living museum and cherished piece of maritime history.

Digital Music: Building Your Perfect Library at Any Age

There’s something timeless about music—it comforts, energizes, and connects us to memories and moments. But how we listen has evolved dramatically. Gone are the days of flipping through vinyl records or untangling cassette tapes (unless you’re feeling nostalgic!). Today, digital music libraries offer an endless jukebox right at your fingertips, tailored entirely to your taste and lifestyle.

Getting Started Is Easier Than You Think
Digital music doesn’t require you to be tech-savvy. Whether you’re using a smartphone, tablet, computer, or smart speaker, there are plenty of user-friendly platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music that let you stream or download songs. Many offer free versions or low-cost subscriptions, giving you access to millions of tracks without needing to purchase them individually.

Create Your Own Soundtrack
One of the joys of digital music is the ability to build custom playlists. Want a calming “Morning Coffee” mix? A toe-tapping “Walk Around the Block” collection? Or perhaps a nostalgic trip through your favorite decades? You can organize music by mood, genre, era, or artist—whatever suits your vibe. If you prefer not to curate yourself, most services offer pre-made playlists and radio-style stations based on your preferences.

Preserve and Personalize
Already have CDs or vinyl you cherish? Many services let you upload digital copies so your favorite classics are never far away. You can even mix old favorites with new discoveries, creating a personalized library that grows with you. And since everything is stored in the cloud, there’s no clutter, and your music is available wherever you go.

Benefits Beyond Entertainment
Studies show that music can boost mood, enhance memory, and even support cognitive health—especially when it’s personally meaningful. Whether you’re learning something new, staying active, or simply relaxing at home, music can be a faithful companion.

Digital music isn’t just a modern convenience—it’s a deeply personal way to enjoy what moves you most. No rewinding, no skipping scratched records—just press play and enjoy.

TOP COMMENTS

  • “I would like a combination of all of them. Working primarily on the first three.”

  • “I have a small life insurance policy ($10,000 payable from onset of policy) and gave my son instructions to research cheap cremation options and no funeral. He's to spread my ashes over any body of water accessible when I pass.”

  • “Retirement, although a wonderful time in life, is also somewhat scary as we all need to think about additional income apart from social security. I hear about so many people who only have social security to rely on and they are barely making ends meet. We are trying to preserve our savings, but also looking at how we can generate income from our investments.”

Pack Smart, Hit the Road: A Stylish Strategy for Your Next Multi‑Stop Trip

Traveling by car through multiple destinations brings its own set of joys—and packing challenges. One approach that keeps the process smooth is to embrace flexibility. For example, swap your usual wheeled suitcase for a soft‑sided duffel; its adaptability makes it easier to handle hotel stays, cabins, or even rustic lodges without the hassle of rolling over gravel or maneuvering tight spaces.

To simplify outfit changes and reduce clutter, try using colour‑coded packing cubes—label each one for specific items like undergarments, tops, bottoms, and accessories. Rolling knit‐wear separates helps maintain comfort on long drives and keep you looking tidy with minimal effort. Make use of the car’s extra space by storing bulky items like boots or coats in the trunk, and keep toiletries and chargers organized in clear zip bags, ready to grab at a moment’s notice.

This method isn’t just about packing less—it’s about freeing yourself to enjoy the road. With each stop no longer a chore but an invitation, you’ll spend more time exploring and less time wrestling with suitcases. Whether you’re solo or with companions, this flexible strategy lets you move with ease, maintain your style, and stay organized no matter where your journey takes you.

Slang Phrase of the Day

Phrase: Delulu Energy

Meaning: Delulu energy is a playful slang term that combines “delusional” and “energy.” It describes a bold, optimistic, or sometimes unrealistic confidence—believing something great is possible even if it seems unlikely. It’s often used with humor or affection to describe someone who chooses to believe in the best-case scenario, despite the odds.

In a sentence: "After one ukulele lesson, Cheryl declared she was ready to perform at the senior center talent show—now that’s delulu energy, and we love her for it!”

Good News of the Day

Tiny Homes, Big Impact: New Village Paves Way Out of Veteran Homelessness

A powerful movement to end veteran homelessness is gaining momentum across the U.S. thanks to the Veterans Community Project (VCP), which has just broken ground on its sixth supportive housing village—this time in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. These villages are made up of compact, 240-square-foot homes designed specifically for veterans facing housing insecurity. But more than just shelter, each community offers wraparound services, including on-site case managers and individualized support, aimed at helping residents rebuild their lives and transition into permanent housing.

The program has already shown tremendous success. Since opening its first village in 2018, VCP has maintained an impressive 85% success rate, with most veterans moving on to stable, long-term housing in just under a year. The model focuses not only on housing, but on healing—recognizing the unique trauma and challenges veterans often face upon returning to civilian life.

Currently, VCP operates or is developing tiny home villages in six cities: Kansas City, St. Louis, Sioux Falls, Longmont, Phoenix, and now Milwaukee. Across these locations, more than 240 homes are in development. In Milwaukee, the project will include around 40 tiny homes, each with its own kitchen, bathroom, and utility hookups. The homes are built on foundations and designed with trauma-informed layouts to create a feeling of safety and familiarity.

Beyond bricks and mortar, these villages are fostering community and restoring dignity. Veterans are not just housed—they’re welcomed into a supportive environment where they can connect, find purpose, and begin the next chapter of their lives. One resident shared, “This place saved me.”

This approach offers a hopeful path forward—proving that with the right support and respect, even the most vulnerable among us can thrive again. The tiny home model is demonstrating that compassionate, scalable solutions to homelessness are not just possible—they’re already working.
