Food Trails: Culinary Adventures in the USA
Discover local flavors and small-town favorites on the most delicious road trips in America.
From buttery lobster rolls in Maine to spicy hatch chiles in New Mexico, the United States is a tapestry of flavors shaped by its rich cultural roots and regional traditions. For food lovers, exploring America’s culinary trails isn’t just about eating—it’s about savoring stories, meeting the makers, and discovering local pride in every bite.
Start with the classics. The Kentucky Bourbon Trail offers more than just a sip of America’s native spirit. Winding through charming small towns and historic distilleries, it’s a chance to learn about barrel-aging, craftsmanship, and the heritage of the Bluegrass State—plus, there are plenty of southern comfort foods to pair along the way.
Craving seafood? Head north to New England’s Lobster Trail. Stretching along the rugged coastline of Maine, this route is dotted with shacks and seaside diners where lobster is served every which way—from rolls and chowders to freshly steamed claws served with melted butter. It’s a salty, satisfying way to experience coastal life.
In the Southwest, the Green Chile Cheeseburger Trail in New Mexico packs a punch. This local specialty blends heat and flavor, and each stop on the trail offers its own spin on the spicy favorite. Small-town diners and roadside grills invite travelers to vote on their favorites, creating a flavorful rivalry that’s as fun as it is filling.
For something sweet, there’s the Wisconsin Cheese Trail, where creameries and dairies open their doors for tastings and tours. You can sample artisan cheeses, watch curds being made, and stock up on picnic-perfect bites for the road. Don’t forget a scoop of frozen custard to top things off.
Culinary trails offer more than a good meal—they’re a sensory way to explore America’s diversity, from immigrant influences to Indigenous traditions. Many towns now offer walking food tours or self-guided tasting maps, making it easy to design your own delicious detour.
So whether you’re a road-tripper with a craving or a retiree looking for your next great adventure, pack an appetite and hit the trail. The tastiest journeys don’t always come with plane tickets—sometimes, they’re just a state line away.

“We have really enjoyed British crime dramas. There are some gritty ones, but they also have a lot of cozy ones - such as Midsomer Murders and Father Brown. We love that there isn't much gore or over-sensationalizing violence and we also get to see the cute little British towns and architecture.”
“I like all of the above! I like to change up what I watch. My absolute favorite crime drama usually has a funny part to break up the tenseness.”
“I love all kind of crime shows. I even watch a lot of true crime. It helps challene my brain trying to figure out "whodunnit."”

Slang Phrase of the Day
Phrase: Breadcrumbing
Meaning: When someone gives just enough attention—like small messages or likes—to keep you interested, but they don’t actually commit or follow through. It’s like leaving little crumbs to keep you coming back, but never offering the full meal.
In a sentence: “Joni said her grandson was breadcrumbing her with texts every now and then, but he never actually called or made plans to visit.”
Good News of the Day
Foal Rescued from Drowning by Canoeists in Alberta River
Two University of Calgary students, Anna Gleig and Ava Haddad, were canoeing on the Kananaskis River when they discovered a foal struggling to stay afloat near a bridge. Recognizing the urgency, they intervened, with Gleig, a former lifeguard, supporting the foal while Haddad assisted from the canoe. After safely bringing the 90-pound foal to shore, they waited for the mother to return but eventually decided to place the foal in their canoe. They contacted a local First Nations community member who identified the foal's mother. The foal was reunited with its mother later that day.
