Top Golf Destinations Worth the Trip

If your love for golf extends beyond the green fairways at home, you’re in for a treat. Whether you’re eyeing a bucket-list getaway or just a weekend golf escape, choosing the right destination can amplify your enjoyment and ease. With travel‑friendly comfort, scenic beauty, and a welcoming pace, the right course can turn a day on the fairway into a memorable adventure.

Start by considering destinations known for both playability and charm. For example, Myrtle Beach in South Carolina offers dozens of courses combined with resort‑style amenities, making it ideal for a relaxed but engaging golf getaway. Its mix of courses and value packages makes it particularly accessible. Meanwhile, regions like Northern Ireland feature historic links courses such as Royal County Down—linked to international competition and breathtaking coastal views—making them a striking choice if you’re open to an international journey.

When planning your trip, simplify logistics by choosing resorts or towns where lodging, dining, and several courses are nearby. Staying in a golf‑oriented community means you’ll spend less time driving and more time enjoying the game, walking a course, chatting with fellow players, and soaking in the surroundings. Another strategy: visit just after peak seasons. This often means fewer crowds, more rental availability, and better pricing—without sacrificing course quality.

For golfers over 50, the travel rhythm is especially important. You may prefer staying at one location and playing two or three rounds rather than rushing to multiple airports and courses. Prioritize courses with well‑maintained amenities, “walking‑friendly” layouts, and optional carts—so you can decide whether you’re up for a full day on foot or a more leisurely ride. And don’t forget: beyond the scorecard, this trip is about the experience—so plan downtime, scenic moments, local dining, or just an early tee‑time with no rush.

Whether you explore familiar‑terrain resorts or venture farther afield, picking the right destination and travel pace matters more than chasing “big city” glamour. Great trips happen when you align the course with your comfort, schedule, and pace. So dust off your clubs, book that tee time, and get ready for an unforgettable fairway adventure that’s tailored to you.

Brace for Big Jumps: Marketplace Health Insurance Costs Set to Soar in 2026

If you're relying on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace for health insurance next year, it’s time to plan ahead—because your costs may rise significantly. Recent estimates reveal startling examples: for example, a senior couple making around $90,000 in Florida could face annual premiums near $26,000 in 2026—up from about $7,600. Similarly, an individual could see their yearly cost increase to around $13,000 at certain income levels.

The dramatic rise comes in part due to federal changes that reduce financial help at specific income “cliffs,” where eligibility for subsidies disappears suddenly. At those thresholds, the loss of assistance can mean your total cost jumps far higher than anticipated. Other contributing factors include a breakdown in subsidy programs, increased enrollment of higher-risk individuals, and rising medical costs—all of which are fueling unusually steep premium increases.

What can you do? Start by estimating your household income for 2026 now and using tools like HealthCare.gov to get early quotes. Consider adjusting your income or timing of deductions so you don’t inadvertently cross into a subsidy‑drop zone. Also, speak with a financial planner who understands the complexities of senior insurance options—they can help model scenarios and identify safer pathways.

While many retirees over 65 depend on Medicare, those who rely on marketplace plans—especially early retirees or people between jobs—should treat upcoming open enrollment as a moment to strategize, not just pick a plan. The numbers are rough today, but being caught off guard could mean having to absorb a huge increase. Staying informed, proactive, and flexible will give you the best chance of navigating this shift without jeopardizing your budget or peace of mind.

Slang Phrase of the Day

Phrase: Kind spiral

Meaning: A kind spiral refers to a positive, self-reinforcing cycle where small acts of kindness—either given or received—lead to uplifted mood, increased connection, and even more kindness, creating a gentle upward spiral of well-being and goodwill.

In a sentence: "After joining the neighborhood book club, Shana found herself in a kind spiral—offering rides to new friends, receiving homemade cookies in return, and feeling more connected each week.”

Good News of the Day

Welsh‑Trained Canines Take the Fight to Poachers in Africa

In a remarkable conservation effort, a team of Welsh dogs—trained by a husband‑and‑wife pair of professional handlers—are playing a vital role in stopping wildlife poachers across Africa. These specially trained dogs, including Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherds, Spaniels, and Retrievers, are brought up from puppyhood in Wales with scent‑tracking skills honed for anti‑poaching work in reserves across Tanzania, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. One dog reportedly followed a trail three miles out of a reserve before leading enforcement teams straight to a poacher’s hideout, showcasing the real‑world impact of canine intervention.

The nonprofit behind the project began when its founders, experienced in military and drug‑detection dog training, recognized that the same skills could be adapted to wildlife protection. Their unique program incorporates early‑life sensory training and exposure to African wildlife scents in Welsh zoos so that the dogs arrive in Africa ready for the terrain and task ahead.

Beyond the chase, the presence of these dogs has a deterrent effect—game reserves say poaching rates drop significantly when a trained scent dog is deployed because potential poachers know the odds are now stacked against them. More than just guardians of endangered species, these animals serve as a bridge between continents and cause and show how innovation, compassion, and unlikely partnerships can yield powerful results.
