Stand Tall: Easy Exercises to Improve Your Posture

Ever catch yourself slouching at your desk or hunched over your phone? You're not alone! Good posture isn't just about looking confident—it's key to keeping your body feeling great.

Here are 5 simple exercises to help you stand a little taller:

  1. Shoulder RollsRoll your shoulders up, back, and down in a smooth motion. It's a quick way to release tension and open up your chest.

  2. Wall AngelsStand with your back against a wall, arms bent at 90 degrees. Slowly slide your arms up and down the wall like you're making a snow angel. This helps align your spine and strengthen your upper back.

  3. Chin TucksGently tuck your chin toward your chest, creating a "double chin" (don't worry, it's just us!). This strengthens the muscles that keep your head aligned over your shoulders.

  4. Cat-Cow StretchOn all fours, alternate between arching your back up like a scared cat and dipping it down like a relaxed cow. This yoga classic loosens up your entire spine.

  5. Bridge PoseLie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Lift your hips toward the ceiling, hold for a few seconds, and lower back down. This strengthens your lower back and glutes, supporting better posture.

Give these a try throughout your day—they're quick, easy, and your back will thank you! Remember, small steps lead to big changes.

  • “It's just my wife and myself. The kids are scattered far enough away to make it difficult to get together, but they are always welcome.”

  • “There is nothing better than gathering together with the people who I love the most in this world! ”

  • “Every year we drive over 1,000 miles to be with our daughter and her family to celebrate Thanksgiving, as well as our little granddaughter's birthday. It takes us two days to get there and two days back home, driving 10 hours each day. It's worth every mile!”

  • “Actually there should be a choice.. "All of the Above"!!”

While we can’t publish them all, we do read and appreciate every comment. Some comments are edited to make room for more contributions.

Longevity Tip of the Day

Save your pennies — Money might not make you happier, but it will help you live longer. A 2016 study by Stanford researchers published in JAMA found that people whose income bracket was in the top 1 percent lived nearly 15 years longer than those in the bottom 1 percent. The disparity could be attributed to healthier behaviors in higher-income groups, including less smoking and lower obesity rates, researchers say.

Slang Phrase of the Day

Phrase: “Stan”

Meaning: No, it's not short for Stanley– instead, it's a combination of "stalker" and "fan." If you stan someone, it means you're obsessed but not in a creepy way.

In a sentence: “I’m a huge Harry Potter stan! I just love the books and movies around this time of year.”
