By: Angie Fox Southern belle Verity Long, more comfortable with her pet skunk than high society, is shocked when she’s invited into Sugarland’s elite social circle—only to discover she’s been hired to investigate spooky goings-on at their historic clubhouse. As she dives into the mystery with help from her ghostly sidekick Frankie and her crush, Deputy Ellis Wydell, Verity uncovers more than just gossip—including a very real murder. With spirits whispering warnings and socialites distracted by her vintage green Cadillac, Verity may be in deeper than she thinks—especially when the ghosts hint that her own time as a ghost hunter might be running out. |
On this day in 1787, the first of the famed The Federalist Papers—often written under the pen name “Publius”—was published in a New York newspaper, advocating for the ratification of the U.S. Constitution. These essays would go on to play a key role in shaping American government by arguing for checks, balances, and federal oversight.
Health Savings Accounts (HSAs): A Triple Tax Advantage You Shouldn’t Overlook
If you're looking for a smart way to save on healthcare costs while investing in your future, a Health Savings Account (HSA) might be the financial tool you didn’t know you needed. Designed for individuals with high-deductible health plans (HDHPs), HSAs offer a unique trio of tax advantages that make them one of the most efficient savings vehicles available.
Here’s how it works: You contribute pre-tax dollars into your HSA, which lowers your taxable income for the year—meaning more money stays in your pocket. Those funds can then be used for a wide range of qualified medical expenses, from prescriptions and copays to dental and vision care. If you don’t use all the money in a given year, no problem—it rolls over and grows year after year, and can even be invested for potential long-term growth.
The real magic lies in the triple tax advantage:
Contributions are tax-deductible (or pre-tax if made through payroll).
Earnings grow tax-free (if you invest your HSA funds).
Withdrawals for qualified medical expenses are tax-free.
It’s like having a retirement account just for your health—but better in some ways. Once you turn 65, you can even use your HSA for non-medical expenses (you'll just pay regular income tax, similar to a traditional IRA). No penalties. And if you do use it for health care, the distributions remain tax-free.
Another bonus? HSAs are portable. That means the account stays with you even if you change jobs, switch insurance plans, or retire. Unlike Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), which often follow a “use-it-or-lose-it” model, your HSA grows with you.
That said, not everyone qualifies. You must be enrolled in a high-deductible health plan to open and contribute to an HSA. And while contribution limits are generous, they do change annually—so it’s good to check the latest guidelines.
For anyone looking to take more control of their healthcare spending and retirement planning, HSAs are a powerful tool to consider. They're not just for medical costs—they're for peace of mind.

Europe in Bloom: Timing Your Flower‑Filled Journey
If you’ve ever been stirred by the sight and scent of blooming flowers, now is the perfect time to plan your floral escape to Europe. Many of the continent’s most breathtaking gardens and wildflower meadows reach their full splendour just before the summer crowds arrive. For instance, the famous Keukenhof Gardens in Holland bursts into colour in April with millions of bulbs, central Italy’s poppy and wisteria‑lined landscapes shine in May, and by June you’ll find lavender fields and alpine blooms in Provence and Slovenia’s Julian Alps. The guide also points to vibrant wildflower displays in the Dolomites in July and rich autumn foliage in regions like Piedmont later in the season. With travel timing now aligning with warmth, blooming nature, and lighter crowds, it’s a smart season to mark on your calendar.

Slang Phrase of the Day
Phrase: Quiet storm
Meaning: The phrase "quiet storm" refers to someone who exudes calmness or gentleness on the outside but carries deep emotional strength, passion, or intensity underneath. It can also describe a steady, subtle force—often powerful in ways that aren't loud or flashy. The term originally gained popularity from the smooth R&B radio format in the 1970s, known for its mellow yet emotionally rich music.
In a sentence: "Joan may seem soft-spoken at our book club, but when it came to organizing the fundraiser, she was a real quiet storm—graceful, calm, and absolutely unstoppable."

Their selfless action and spontaneous courage turned a dire situation into a hopeful outcome for the whales now swimming free.
