On this day in 1967, astrophysicist Jocelyn Bell Burnell detected a strange, rhythmic radio signal while reviewing telescope data at Cambridge University. That mysterious “beeping” turned out to be the first pulsar ever identified — a rapidly spinning, super-dense star that emits precise pulses like a cosmic lighthouse.
Her discovery transformed our understanding of the universe and opened an entirely new field of astronomy. A reminder that sometimes, the biggest breakthroughs happen when something just doesn’t look quite right!
Healthy Habits for Caregivers: Taking Care of Yourself While Caring for Others
Caregiving is one of the most meaningful roles a person can take on—but also one of the most demanding. Whether you’re supporting a spouse, parent, sibling, or friend, the daily responsibilities can quietly push your own needs to the background. Over time, that imbalance can lead to burnout, stress, and declining health. The truth is simple: you can’t pour from an empty cup. Building healthy habits isn’t selfish—it’s essential.
Start With Small, Sustainable Routines
Caregivers often feel they must wait for a “free moment” to take care of themselves, but those moments rarely appear. Instead, establish brief, manageable routines throughout the week. A 10-minute morning stretch, a short walk around the block, or a daily cup of tea enjoyed without multitasking can gently restore your energy. Even micro-breaks improve mood, focus, and physical well-being.
Set Boundaries Without Guilt
Many caregivers struggle to say no, fearing they’ll seem unhelpful or uncaring. But boundaries protect both you and the person you support. Communicate your limits clearly: when you’re available, when you’re not, and what tasks you can realistically handle. If others offer help—say yes. Delegating a single chore, like grocery delivery or medication pickup, can free up time and prevent overwhelm.
Stay Connected and Supported
Isolation is a major risk for caregivers, especially those providing full-time assistance. Regular check-ins with friends, family, or support groups can boost emotional resilience. Even virtual communities provide powerful validation—you’re not alone, and others truly understand the challenges you face.
Prioritize Your Own Health Appointments
Caregivers often skip their own medical visits, but maintaining your health ensures you can continue caring for others. Schedule annual checkups, eye exams, dental visits, and any necessary screenings. Treat these appointments as nonnegotiable—just like you would for the person you’re caring for.
Practice Mindfulness and Stress Relief
Simple practices like deep breathing, guided meditation, or journaling can lower stress hormones and calm the mind. You don’t need elaborate rituals—just a few intentional minutes. Apps made for caregivers can also provide reminders, emotional support tools, and stress-management exercises.
Remember: You're Doing Enough
Caregiving is emotionally rich and emotionally heavy. Give yourself permission to rest, recharge, and ask for help. Healthy habits aren’t extra—they’re the foundation that helps you show up with strength, clarity, and compassion.

An overwhelming 81% of voters chose “All of the above” as their ideal solo cruise moment, showing that independent travelers love having the freedom to switch between adventure, relaxation, and quiet reflection. “Cruises are not for me.”
“I’m one of those “never cruise” people. Love the beachfront condo we rent for winter, but not a fan of seeing nothing but water.”

Slang Phrase of the Day
Phrase: Fanum tax
Meaning: “Fanum tax” is a modern slang term that started on social media, especially TikTok and streaming communities. It jokingly refers to the extra portion of someone else’s food that a friend takes without asking — basically a playful “tax” for being nearby when someone is eating.
In a sentence: “My grandson says I owe him a ‘fanum tax’ every time I make cookies — which apparently means he gets to steal the first one right off the tray.”

From Coma to Commitment: Minnesota Couple Who Met in Hospital ICU Are Getting Married
In a truly remarkable story, two Minnesotans — Zach Zarembinski and Isabelle Richard — first met in a hospital after each survived separate comas. Back in 2018, Zach was hospitalized after a football injury and Isabelle after a serious car crash; both endured traumatic brain injuries and emerged from coma in the same intensive care unit at Regions Hospital in Saint Paul.
Years later, their story came full circle — they reconnected and fell in love, eventually forming a podcast about healing together. Then, recently, Zach returned with Isabelle to the very hospital where they first met. During a recording of their podcast, he surprised her with a proposal, complete with a heart-shaped floral display and the words “Will you marry me?” displayed on a backdrop. Isabelle said yes.
Their journey — from critical injury and coma to love, recovery, and a future together — is being celebrated as a miracle of survival, hope, and second chances. It’s a powerful example of how healing and human connection can bloom even from the toughest beginnings.
