Insurance Gaps to Watch for in Retirement
Retirement brings many rewards—more freedom, more time, and hopefully less stress. But it can also come with some surprising gaps in insurance coverage that are easy to overlook until it’s too late. Understanding these gaps early can help protect your health, finances, and peace of mind.
One of the most common assumptions is that Medicare will cover everything once you turn 65. While it’s a valuable resource, Medicare doesn’t typically include coverage for dental work, vision care, hearing aids, or long-term care services like home assistance or nursing facilities. These are out-of-pocket expenses unless you purchase separate policies or supplemental plans.
Another major gap can appear if you retire before you’re eligible for Medicare. Many people find themselves without employer-sponsored health coverage and unsure how to bridge the gap. Marketplace plans or COBRA coverage may help, but they can be costly and complex to navigate.
Then there are property and liability considerations. Downsizing your home, traveling more often, or even picking up new hobbies can change your insurance needs. Auto coverage, home insurance, and even personal liability policies should all be reviewed to make sure they align with your new lifestyle.
Supplemental insurance—sometimes called Medigap—can help fill in coverage holes left by Medicare, including co-pays, deductibles, and some emergency medical services. However, even these plans don’t cover everything, so it’s important to know what you’re getting and what’s still missing.
The best strategy? Start by reviewing what you have now. Take note of what's covered, what isn’t, and what your out-of-pocket costs could be in different scenarios. Then consider where you may need to add coverage or set aside funds. Planning ahead can prevent a lot of stress later.
Retirement is your time to relax and enjoy life—but that’s easier to do when you’re not caught off guard by unexpected medical or financial costs. Being proactive about insurance gaps is one of the smartest steps you can take to protect your retirement lifestyle.

The “Good with Money” Myth That’s Holding You Back
For many women, holding onto the belief that they’re simply “not good with money” isn’t just self-doubt—it’s a myth that stalls their financial confidence and progress. This narrative often originates from cultural messages, early life experiences, or being kept out of money decisions entirely, rather than from actual inability. The real goal isn’t perfection, but trusting yourself with your finances: asking questions, making decisions, and recognizing that it’s never too late to start building confidence and control.

Slang Phrase of the Day
Phrase: Flex
Meaning: To “flex” means to show off, brag, or proudly display something—whether it’s a skill, achievement, or possession. It can be playful or serious, depending on the context.
In a sentence: “When my neighbor casually mentioned he ran a half-marathon last weekend, I told him that was quite the flex—and then offered him a slice of my award-winning apple pie.”
Good News of the Day
Younger Generations Are Redefining What It Means to Ask for Help
Millennials and Gen Z are leading the way in normalizing help-seeking behavior, especially when it comes to financial stress. In a recent survey of U.S. adults, a majority of respondents in these age groups reported feeling positively about asking for support and believe they’re better at it than previous generations. While over half of all adults still admit to hesitating due to fear of judgment, younger people are showing that reaching out—whether for advice, emotional support, or money management—is not a weakness, but a strength.
