When Abby, the compassionate owner of Goldilocks Hair Salon, discovers blood outside her shop and her homeless friend Rose missing, she’s determined to uncover the truth—despite police warnings to stay out of it. As she juggles amateur sleuthing, romantic tension with both a protective police sergeant and a helpful firefighter, and salon drama involving a pregnant employee, Abby’s optimism and heart lead the way. With danger, mystery, and moments of warmth (including cameos from the author’s 50-Plus Condo series), this cozy mystery explores community, compassion, and second chances.

On this day in 1989, citizens of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania joined hands to form the Baltic Way, a peaceful human chain stretching over 400 miles (675 km) across the three countries. Roughly two million people participated in this symbolic protest against Soviet occupation, marking the 50th anniversary of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.

This stunning demonstration of unity and nonviolent resistance played a powerful role in accelerating the Baltic nations’ independence from Soviet rule. It remains one of the most inspiring peaceful protests in modern history.

Morning Stretches for Better Mobility

Wake up your body and stay limber throughout the day

Starting your day with a few gentle stretches can make a world of difference in how your body feels—especially as we age. Morning stretching isn’t about becoming a yoga master or touching your toes with ease; it’s about maintaining mobility, reducing stiffness, and encouraging circulation so you move through the day with more comfort and confidence.

Here are a few simple stretches to ease into your morning and support better mobility:

1. Neck Rolls

Slowly drop your chin to your chest and gently roll your head from side to side. This helps loosen the neck and shoulders, where tension tends to build up overnight.
Duration: 30 seconds

2. Shoulder Rolls

Lift your shoulders up toward your ears, then roll them back and down in a circular motion. Repeat a few times, then reverse the direction. This opens the chest and improves posture.
Duration: 1 minute

3. Side Stretch (Seated or Standing)

Raise one arm overhead and lean gently to the opposite side to stretch your side body. Keep the motion smooth and comfortable. Switch sides.
Duration: 20 seconds each side

4. Seated Spinal Twist

While seated, place one hand on the opposite knee and gently twist your torso. Keep your spine long and shoulders relaxed. This stretch increases spinal flexibility.
Duration: 30 seconds per side

5. Hamstring Stretch

Stand tall, then place one foot forward with the heel on the ground and toes pointed up. Hinge at the hips and reach toward your toes (only as far as is comfortable). You should feel a stretch in the back of your leg.
Duration: 20–30 seconds per leg

6. Ankle Circles

While seated or lying down, lift one foot off the ground and rotate your ankle slowly in both directions. Great for circulation and joint mobility.
Duration: 30 seconds per foot

Why It Matters

Just five to ten minutes of stretching in the morning can boost circulation, reduce the risk of falls, improve flexibility, and even help with joint pain. Best of all, it’s a gentle, doable habit that anyone can incorporate—no gym required.

So tomorrow morning, before coffee or emails, try a few stretches. Your body will thank you.

Yesterday’s Poll Results: Which Kind of Luggage Do You Prefer for Most Trips?

When it comes to packing up for a trip, the majority of travelers prefer to roll in style and structure—35% chose the sleek, hard-shell spinner suitcase as their go-to. Soft-sided bags came in close behind at 30%, proving flexibility is still a fan favorite. Meanwhile, 20% of respondents travel light with carry-ons only, while backpacks, rolling support bags, and other options made up the rest. Whether you're a minimalist jet-setter or a carefully packed vacationer, there's no one-size-fits-all when it comes to luggage—just what fits your style best.

TOP COMMENTS

  • “My soft-sided suitcase is carry on size, but at 74, I can't lift it into the overhead compartment, so I check it.”

  • “Short road trips make a duffle bag the best choice.”

  • “Love the backpack as my carry-on because it leaves my hands free for when I have to hold on to railings, eat/drink, pay for something or show my ticket. If I need more room, I definitely need luggage with wheels as I can't carry a duffel-type bag anymore.”

Slang Phrase of the Day

Phrase: Warm take

Meaning: A warm take is an opinion or observation that is thoughtful and balanced, but not necessarily urgent, provocative, or controversial. It’s the opposite of a “hot take”—less reactive, more reflective. Warm takes are often kind, nuanced, and delivered with a tone of calm clarity rather than drama or outrage.

In a sentence: "After everyone got riled up about the latest smartphone update, Marjorie shared a warm take in book club—she said maybe learning new things is hard, but it’s also what keeps us young."

Good News of the Day

Letters of Love: From Father-Daughter Bond to Global Pen-Pal Project

Rosie Paulik grew up knowing her father, Buz Ecker, as her personal pen pal—he faithfully sent her handwritten letters every ten days from her childhood through her college years, amassing a treasured collection of around 3,500 heartfelt notes. Inspired to share this warm tradition with the world, Rosie launched the Dad Letter Project, inviting anyone in need of reassurance, wisdom, or a lighthearted joke to request a custom letter from one of the participating dads. Responding to a surge in demand—now in the thousands—Buz and fellow father volunteers are helping to spread connection, kindness, and authenticity one handwritten note at a time.

This is truly “a hug on paper” for anyone whose mailbox might only echo with bills, and a beautiful reminder of how small acts of caring can make a big impact.
