| How fancy do you make your coffee at home? | | | Fun and affordable ways to make coffee at home (that aren’t just in the pot) | Do you love the smell of coffee first thing in the morning? While many of us use a classic pot to brew our coffee, there are a few other fun, affordable alternatives to try if you’re feeling adventurous. | French Press: The French press is a big cylinder, usually, glass, with a filter that you plunge through the coffee. It’s quite simple, you pour the coffee in, add water, set a timer, then plunge and serve. Here’s a French Press recipe to try. | Pros: You can make a small or large amount based on the size of your French press; they tend to look fancy but aren’t too expensive; Quite simple to use. Cons: Cleaning the filter can be a bit annoying; because they’re glass they can break.
| Moka Pot/Stove Top: Are you an espresso person? This fun method lets you make an espresso at home without the expensive equipment. Fill it up with water, pack in your finely-ground coffee, screw the lid on, then put on the stove. Here’s a Moka Pot recipe to try. | Pros: far cheaper than an espresso machine! They are made of metal and very durable. Cons: Easy to set and forget on the stove; espresso isn’t for everyone; the brewer gets hot, so handle with as much care as a pan!
| Pour Over: While you can get fancy with pour-overs, you can also pick up a simple, cone-shaped device that sits on top of your cup, stick a paper filter in it, and make a great coffee. Even this nice red one from a famous Japanese coffee company costs $9.95 on Amazon. | Pros: Affordable but fancy; can be bough in a range of sizes; they make the tastiest coffee. Cons: You need to buy paper filters; you need something to pour the coffee into (e.g., a jug); you’ll probably want to get fancier and fancier once you start!
