| Dear Joanne | Your questions, her wisdom — Joanne’s here with thoughtful advice, warm humor, and a listening ear for whatever’s on your mind. | | Dear Readers, | I normally write my column on the weekends for the Wednesday publication. That gives me downtime with my thoughts, find the humor in everyday living for us all, try to exude a teaching moment when I can, and maybe throw a zinger at my husband just because. | All of that came crashing down this weekend. I am heartbroken. And know I can find solace through this readership. | On July 4th, I lost my very best girlfriend in the whole wide world. | She was my maid of honor when I married. We went to three Super Bowls together to cheer on the Buffalo Bills (with stories we shared between us that will never be repeated). We laughed together more than any two girlfriends ever have. We cried together when times were bad. She was Godmother to my youngest son. We were co-workers. We took family vacations together. We drank Wild Berry Margaritas at Chi-Chi’s and watched Monday Night Football together. | Life eventually pulled us in different directions, as life so often does. Careers, responsibilities, family and time itself have a way of putting miles between people who once spoke every day. | But here is what NEVER changed. | Whenever someone would ask who my best friend is, without a doubt the answer would be, and always will be, Cathy Ann Martin. If either one of us needed each other for any reason, no matter how long we hadn’t been in contact, we knew we had each other. | To her daughter, Jennifer: Please never doubt that your mother loved you with every piece of her heart. She spoke of you with a pride and a love that words can never fully capture. | If there is anything I hope you take from this column, it is this: | If you’ve been saying, “We really need to get together soon,” don’t wait. | Make the call. | Send the text. | Go have the coffee. | Because one day, without warning, “soon” becomes a day that never comes. | To Cathy: Thank you for a lifetime of laughter, loyalty, memories, and unconditional friendship. A part of my heart left with you on July 4, and another part will always carry you with me. | Forever my best friend. | Love, | Joanne | PS: Please email me at [email protected]. I can use an email hug. I promise to reciprocate. | |

| | Digital Cards and Invitations: Modern Ways to Keep in Touch Stay connected with ease, creativity, and a personal touch—no stamp required. | In a world that’s increasingly gone digital, even our greeting cards and party invitations have joined the tech-savvy shift. Gone are the days when you had to race to the store to pick out a card or worry about stamps and snail mail. Digital cards and invitations are not only quicker and more convenient, but they also open the door to an abundance of creative possibilities—all from the comfort of your home. | For seniors looking to stay in touch with friends, family, and loved ones, digital greetings are a simple, heartwarming way to reach out. Whether it’s for a birthday, anniversary, holiday, or just a cheerful hello, websites and apps like Paperless Post, Smilebox, and Jacquie Lawson make it incredibly easy to send beautiful, customizable e-cards. Many of these platforms even allow you to include music, animation, or personalized messages that make your card feel extra special. | Planning a gathering? Digital invitations are the new go-to for everything from backyard barbecues to milestone birthday parties. With tools like Evite or Canva, you can create charming invites in minutes, track RSVPs effortlessly, and even include event details, maps, and reminders—no handwriting or phone calls necessary. | Aside from being practical and fun, digital cards are eco-friendly, saving paper and postage. They’re also budget-friendly, with many free or low-cost options that look just as lovely as anything you’d find in a store. You can choose from a wide variety of designs—from elegant and formal to playful and lighthearted—so it’s easy to find something that suits your style. | Worried about the learning curve? Most digital card sites are made with simplicity in mind, with drag-and-drop features and step-by-step instructions. And once you get the hang of it, sending a card can be done in just a few clicks! | So whether you want to brighten someone’s day, celebrate a special moment, or simply say “thinking of you,” digital cards and invitations are a modern, thoughtful way to keep your connections strong. You might even find yourself looking forward to crafting your next greeting. | 💡 Tip: Don’t forget to add your recipient’s email or phone number correctly—and always preview your card before sending for that perfect final touch! | 💌 How do you usually send cards or invitations these days? | |
