| | Digital Assets in Your Estate Plan | Why Your Online Life Shouldn’t Be Left Out | In today’s digital world, your estate includes more than just bank accounts, real estate, and family heirlooms—it also includes your digital assets. These might range from financial accounts and cloud storage to social media profiles and even treasured photo libraries. Including these in your estate plan helps ensure that your digital legacy is protected and managed according to your wishes. | What Counts as a Digital Asset? Digital assets include anything you store or use online: email accounts, social media profiles, digital photos, documents in cloud storage, domain names, websites, digital currencies (like Bitcoin), and even reward points from airlines or stores. If it’s online and you’ve created or collected it, it’s part of your digital estate. | Why It Matters Without a clear plan, your loved ones may have difficulty accessing or closing your digital accounts. Some platforms, like Facebook and Google, have legacy options in place, but many do not. Not including instructions can create unnecessary emotional and legal hurdles for your family and potentially leave sensitive information vulnerable. | How to Plan Ahead Start by making a list of your digital assets, including account usernames and what they contain. Do not include passwords directly in your will, as wills become public documents. Instead, keep a separate, secure list of passwords (in a digital password manager or encrypted file) and appoint someone trustworthy to access it when needed. | Next, clearly state in your estate documents who you’d like to manage your digital assets. This person—sometimes called a “digital executor”—can be given authority through your will or a separate legal document, depending on your state laws. Work with an estate planning attorney to ensure your wishes are enforceable and align with relevant privacy laws. | Final Thoughts Planning for your digital assets isn’t just about financial security—it’s also about protecting memories and reducing stress for those you love. From heartfelt emails to cherished vacation photos, your digital life tells a story worth preserving. By including your digital assets in your estate plan, you make sure your online world is cared for just like everything else you leave behind. | 🗂️ How much thought have you given to your digital assets? | |

| Yesterday’s Poll Results: Would you join a community garden? |
|
| | While plenty of folks are tempted by the idea of digging in and growing their own veggies (17%), it turns out most of you prefer your produce with a side of convenience—52% say farmers markets are more their style. Others say they’d join if there were flowers, shade, and a comfy seat (18%), while just a few would jump in to organize one or get the whole family involved. Still, it’s clear: whether planting or perusing, fresh food is always in season. | TOP COMMENTS | “We have eight raised beds of vegetables (down from 14) and we share the produce with friends and family. In fact, when I retired, one of my coworkers asked me if she could still come to the gardens. We have been doing this for at least 42 of the 44 years we have been in our home. Occasionally, we take a break and give the garden beds a break. Our friends are going to be horribly disappointed as this is a ‘break year.’” “I love everything about community gardens!!” “My sister and I garden together at her house and share the plentiful harvest and have wonderful conversations!”

| Slang Phrase of the Day | Phrase: It’s giving | Meaning: A phrase used to describe the vibe or impression something gives off—often with flair or exaggeration.
