Whether you’re interested in brushing up on history, exploring photography, learning a new language, or diving into the world of finance, there’s a platform for you. Websites like Coursera, Udemy, Khan Academy, and Skillshare offer a wide variety of courses, many of which are free or low-cost. Some are taught by university professors, while others come from real-world professionals who bring practical, hands-on experience. You can go at your own pace—pause, rewind, or review anytime—and choose subjects that truly interest you.
Online learning is especially valuable for older adults. It allows for mental stimulation, which is vital for long-term brain health. And remember, it's never too late to begin. Whether you want to better understand your smartphone, start a home business, or simply keep your brain active—online learning opens the door.

Yesterday’s Poll Results: Which insurance gap worries you most as you approach or enter retirement?

Long-term care and home help services topped our insurance gap poll, with 44% of readers saying it’s their biggest concern heading into retirement. Dental, vision, and hearing coverage followed at 32%, showing that many are still seeking full care beyond what Medicare typically includes. Travel and emergency coverage outside the home area came in at 11%, and 10% are worried about having health insurance if they retire before becoming Medicare-eligible. Just 2% chose “other,” but the message is clear—many older adults are thinking ahead about how to protect their health and independence in the years to come.
TOP COMMENTS
“Dental, vision and hearing, along with long-term and home health. It doesn't make sense to me; this is when the majority of people on Medicare need these services.”
“Just trying to keep myself healthy. Exercise, eat good and enjoy laughter with my friends.”
“None. I think I've got all those covered.”
“Medicare Advantage programs have taken a lot of heat lately, but for me and many others I know, it has been a Godsend.”
“Health insurance until eligible for Medicare is so expensive and we aren't guaranteed that we can stay with our doctors, which is very stressful and troublesome.”
Headline: Hearing Loss in Older Women: A Widespread and Overlooked Health Issue
As we age, hearing loss becomes increasingly common—especially for older women—and brings profound social, emotional, and cognitive consequences. Many face diagnostic delays due to lack of awareness or stigma and struggle with high costs and limited access to audiology services, particularly in rural or underserved areas. Untreated hearing loss can lead to isolation, increased risk of falls and cognitive decline, and challenges in daily communication, making early screening, proper treatment, and advocacy vital.

Slang Phrase of the Day
Phrase: Humble ripple
Meaning: A humble ripple refers to a small, modest action or gesture that ends up having a surprisingly positive or far-reaching impact—like tossing a pebble into a pond and watching the ripples spread. It's often used to describe kindness, encouragement, or community spirit that quietly influences others without seeking recognition.
In a sentence: "Evelyn didn’t think much of starting a weekly knitting circle at the library, but her humble ripple has brought new friendships, cozy scarves, and a whole lot of laughter to our little town."
Good News of the Day
Northernmost Rhino Unearthed: Arctic Discovery Rewrites Natural History
An extraordinary fossil found on Canada’s Devon Island reveals a hornless rhinoceros species that roamed the high Arctic about 23 million years ago—making it the most northern‑living rhino ever documented. The nearly 75 percent complete skeleton suggests this creature thrived in a forested, temperate environment with snowy winters and extended periods of darkness, challenging what scientists thought they knew about ancient Arctic habitats. Moreover, the discovery points to a longer‑lasting North Atlantic land bridge, showing that early mammals migrated between Europe and North America much later than previously believed.
