How to Make Your Savings Stick Around a Bit

Regardless of your income, it can be difficult to build savings. We all know we should be building savings and not just using it for any purpose, but we haven’t really been told how to do that.

Just expecting yourself to automatically build savings is not enough. It sounds like an incredibly do-able strategy for savings, right?

Words of the Day

Finance Term: Loan Consolidation

Definition: A loan consolidation combines a number of loans into a single new loan with a lower interest rate and a new payment plan. This makes the payments less (with a lower interest rate) and allows you to only pay one company (rather than multiple).

Medical Term: Relapse

Definition: Reappearance of a disease or symptoms after a patient has recovered.

Slang Word of the Day: Dip

Definition: To leave suddenly or early.

Used in a Sentence: “This place is dead, I’m about to dip.”

Longevity Tip Of The Day

Keep Moving — The evidence is clear. People who exercise live longer on average than those who don't. Regular physical activity lowers your chances of getting heart disease, stroke, diabetes, some forms of cancer, and depression. It may even help you stay mentally sharp into old age. Ten-minute spurts are fine, as long as they add up to about 2.5 hours of moderate exercise per week.

News of the Day

The U.S. just expanded its territory by a million square kilometers

  • In a historic move, the United States has officially expanded its geographical territory by one million square kilometers — an area nearly 60 percent the size of Alaska. The catalyst for this territory expansion lies in the redefinition of the U.S. continental shelf boundaries.

  • By invoking international law, the State Department has outlined new areas under the sea where the continental shelf, a seabed area surrounding large landmasses with relatively shallow waters, extends further than previously recognized.

Scores of Endangered Butterflies Slated to Be Released Along California Coast Using $1.5 Million Private Grant

  • In California, a joint effort will oversee a multi-stage, four-year plan to help Behren’s silverspot butterfly return in numbers to the coastline of Northern California.

  • Vitalized by a $1.5 million grant from the State of CA Wildlife Conservation Board, the Mendocino Land Trust (MLT) is planning to plant 35,000 early blue violets, the only plant which the caterpillars of these blazing orange butterflies can eat, along with a mixture of supporting native plants.
