Words of the Day

Finance Term: Conventional mortgage

Definition: A mortgage that isn't backed by a government agency.

Medical Term: CT scan

Definition: Computed tomography (CT) scan. An imaging method that uses X-rays to create pictures of cross sections of the body. May also be referred to as a CAT scan.

Slang Word of the Day: I'm weak

Definition: Similar to "I'm dead," this is just another term to use when you find something hilarious.

Used in a Sentence: 

“No way you just said that — I’m weak.”

Longevity Tip Of The Day

Go nuts — In a European study of adults ages 55 to 69, those who ate 10 grams of nuts daily — 8 almonds or 6 cashews — reduced their risk of death from any health-related cause by 23 percent. As for specific ailments, consuming a handful of nuts at least five times per week lowers the mortality risk for heart disease (by 29 percent), respiratory disease (24 percent) and cancer (11 percent), according to a previous U.S. study. Sorry, peanut butter fans: Spreads didn’t show the same benefits.

Animal shelter in Pennsylvania empty for first time in 47 years

• An animal shelter in Pennsylvania reached a milestone this Christmas season, celebrating one of the rare moments where less is more.

• The Adams county SPCA, which houses dogs, cats and other homeless, abandoned or lost animals, was empty for the first time in 47 years, according to a Facebook post from the shelter, reported by CNN.

Southwest Airlines cancels hundreds of flights, disrupting some holiday travelers

• After thousands of U.S. flights were canceled or delayed over the holidays in 2022, most holiday travelers this year are off to a cheerier start this Christmas. But a few trouble spots were emerging on Christmas Day.

• Roughly 157 flights to, from, or within the U.S. had been been cancelled as of 5:25 p.m. Eastern Time, while just 2,058 were delayed, according to tracking service FlightAware.
