Grandparenting Matters in All Generations
My first thought when my oldest daughter told me she was expecting my first grandchild was “at last!” I was 64 years old, with four adult children more focused on their careers than on starting families. Most of my friends were already grandparents. Some of them even had great-grandchildren. I was ready to join the grandparenting club.
What I wasn’t prepared for was how I would feel when my daughter placed her infant in my arms. I suddenly realized I was holding the future of our family. Before I could process that thought, the tiny creature curled her hand around one of my fingers and I was instantly in love.
Words of the Day
Finance Term: Credit Report
What It Is: A credit report is a detailed breakdown of your credit history prepared by a credit bureau. Credit bureaus collect financial information about you and compile their reports based on that information. Lenders use the reports, often along with other data, to determine your creditworthiness. Insurance companies, employers, and landlords may check your credit reports, as well.
Medical Term: Acne
What It Is: It starts when greasy secretions from the skin's sebaceous glands (oil glands) plug the tiny openings for hair follicles (plugged pores). If the openings remain open, the clogs take the form of blackheads: small, flat spots with dark centers. If the openings are closed, the clogs take the form of whiteheads: small, flesh-colored bumps.
Slang Word of the Day: Main character
Definition: This is a phrase used to describe someone who is generally well-liked and charismatic. It can also be used to describe someone when they're making a scene, but not necessarily in a bad way.
Used in a Sentence: “Everyone was clapping for the dog that had gotten onto the marathon route, and it was enjoying every minute of it. Real main character energy.”

What are the Amish ways? Lots of physical activity, less smoking and drinking, and a supportive social structure involving family and community.
