On this day in 1918, clocks in the United States were set one hour ahead as Daylight Saving Time went into operation for the first time. |
Deal of the Day
In honor of the solar eclipse this week, Pizza Hut is offering any large pizza, with up to 10 toppings, for just $12. I’m not sure if anyone needs 10 toppings on their pizza, but it’s nice to know you have the option.

6 Reasons You Really Are Awesome in Your 60s
We are awesome! I have been thinking back through the events of my own life-time and checking out with others just what we 60-somethings have been through in our lives. I can honestly say that we are truly amazing!
It is very humbling to see just what we have suffered, endured and put up with during the past 60+ years. What I discovered is that we are a generation that gives testament to the strength of the human spirit.
Understanding Catch-up Contributions for Retirement Plans
It’s never too late to start saving for retirement. If you’re over the age of 50, you get a boost that those who are younger don’t. The IRS allows those closer to retirement to contribute above the annual limit to certain employer-sponsored retirement savings accounts. In 2021, you can contribute an additional $6,500, which was the same limit for catch-up contributions in 2020. You can do catch-up contributions to the following qualified retirement plans:
401(k) [other than a SIMPLE 401(k)]
403(b)
SARSEP
Governmental 457(b)

Pump Some Iron — While most people know the benefits of cardio for aging (hearth health, respiration, etc) fewer people know that it’s a good idea to lift weights when you start getting older! Our body starts reducing its muscular mass from the age of 40!
NEWS OF THE DAY
Salem community shares overwhelming support for the library amid budget cut talks
Salem’s city councilors overwhelmingly said this week they would not vote for a city budget that closed the Salem Public Library.
They clarified their viewpoints after receiving a flurry of comments from members of the public opposed to deeper cuts.
Billie Eilish and her mother were stunned by the music industry's lack of environmental action — so they've taken matters into their own hands
Long before Billie Eilish became a global superstar, she says she was “notorious” among her friends for something else entirely. “When I would get a present, I would carefully undo the tape and carefully unwrap it and not let it rip and I would fold it up so that it could be reused — I didn’t want to destroy it,” she says with a sincere chuckle.
In the eco-conscious house where Eilish grew up, everything — wrapping paper included — was treated as reusable. In 2012, with the help of a government rebate program, the family transitioned its Los Angeles home to run on solar power. And, in 2014, Eilish’s parents, Patrick O’Connell and Maggie Baird, removed the grass from their front yard to save water. “Those were big moments for us,” Baird recalls. “We were excited.”
