Making the decision to limit my availability to my mother as well as end my tendency to drop everything and run if something came up represented a huge change for me. Throughout my life I have always been a people pleaser and a caretaker – always wanting to do what I can to make people comfortable.

I had a realization that I could never make my mother comfortable or happy – and that my trying to do so was harming my own mental health and keeping me from doing the things and being with the people that I loved.

LONGEVITY TIP OF THE DAY

Reduce your sodium intake—In most Americans’ diets, sodium primarily comes from salt (sodium chloride). Whenever you add salt to your food, you're adding sodium. We all need some sodium, but too much over time can lead to high blood pressure, which can raise your risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

How much sodium is okay? People 51 and older should reduce their sodium intake to 2,300 mg each day. That is about one teaspoon of salt and includes sodium added during manufacturing or cooking as well as at the table when eating. If you have high blood pressure or prehypertension, limiting sodium intake to 1,500 mg per day, about 2/3 teaspoon of salt, may be helpful.

Slang Phrase of the Day

Word: “IYKYK“

Definition: An abbreviation of “if you know, you know.” Usually used to refer to a joke or experience that only certain folks would know.

Used in a Sentence: “I’m cutting down on processed foods because of the hidden sodium levels. IYKYK!”

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY

On I-94 in Minnesota, a team of good samaritans and highway rescue personnel bandied together to save a stranger trapped unconscious inside a burning car.

Simply incredible dash camera footage shows 5 or 6 people pulling over and leaping out of their cars after an SUV runs off the highway and bursts into flames.

Lost your keys? Can’t remember where you parked the car? If only you had the memory of a mountain chickadee.

These half-ounce birds, with brains slightly larger than a pea, stash tens of thousands of food items like seeds in tree bark, under dead leaves, and inside pinecones across the mountains and can remember their locations with pinpoint accuracy.
