SENIOR LIVING NEWS

Tolerations are things we’re putting up with.

They are often subtle energy drainers and time suckers. The time and energy we spend on tolerating things builds up, slowly draining us and limiting our effectiveness and overall happiness.

Zapping tolerations is a necessary habit to build if we wish to improve our quality of life. As we grow, we can progressively raise our standards to creating a toleration-free zone for our lives.

Medicare is a great program for those who have retired or suffered a qualifying disability. But as with any insurance plan, there are some physicians who will say they don’t accept Medicare. Those physicians are known as non-participating providers.

If your favorite physician doesn’t accept Medicare, you’ll have a few choices to make. You can pay the extra cost, choose a different provider, or use a service like urgent care for your medical needs. Below are some details about those options.

LONGEVITY TIP OF THE DAY

Spice up your spices—we may reach for our favorite seasoning spices for every meal we make, but did you know some spices may offer bonus health benefits? Turmeric, often found in curries, is anti-inflammatory and may have protective effects on health, according to research. Ginger contains compounds that may help prevent oxidative stress and inflammation that occurs as part of aging. And garlic has many benefits, including anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties.

Slang Phrase of the Day

Word: “Millennial pause“

Definition: Move over boomers, it’s time for millennials to show their age. The “millennial pause” is how Gen Z-ers identify videos made by their elders. This pause is when someone takes a second to check that they are recording when making an online video, usually involving the person frowning awkwardly into the camera before they begin speaking.

Used in a Sentence: “My grandkids have been making fun of their dad for his millennial pause whenever he FaceTimes them.”

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY

A nerve-wracking scene unfolded as Colorado wildlife officials pulled all the stops to rescue two young mountain lions in the path of a deluge of trouble.

A worker at the Pine River Irrigation District Dam was about to release a large amount of water down a concrete spillway when he spotted the yearlings at the bottom of the steep wall.

A remote outcrop in Scotland is covered with garden gnomes but nobody knows exactly how they got there.

The gnomes first appeared there in 2010, with some people speculating they were left by a local fisherman.
