Do you think you could navigate dating in retirement? |
Dating in Retirement: Things to Consider
Nobody paints a picture of retirement as a single person. But this is the reality for many. Whether we get widowed or decide to separate in retirement, itâs helpful to know how to âput yourself out thereâ again.
Dating will be differentâif the last time you dated was decades ago, expect the courtship to be a little different. Youâve both lived full lives, may have familes and grandkids. It wonât be the same as when you were young. But embrace the difference.
You donât have to go straight to the internetâgetting out into the world is important. You could meet a lovely single person at group events. Agree to social invitations and join clubs to make meeting an available someone more likely.
But online dating can be a great optionâdating apps or websites such as plentyoffish.com let you browse different singles and message them before meeting. This can feel safer for many people.
Be cautiousâunfortunately, seniors can be targets for romance scams. Donât share any information that can identify you (address, social security, banking info). If you meet up with someone, meet in a public place and tell a friend or family member where youâll be.
Donât rushâbeing single is not the end of the world. Perhaps youâll find you enjoy your own company and find companionship in friends and social activities. Donât rush into a relationship just because you think you have to. Wait for the right personâor enjoy being single.
If you have any tips or stories about dating, reply to this emailâweâll share them next Sunday!

Evidence is growing that CBD, a non-psychoactive ingredient of cannabis, is potentially effective in treating various pet maladies, says Chie Mogi, lead veterinarian of the Animal CBD Research Society in Japan, who has reported such cases in veterinary publications.
