Do you think you drink enough water every day? |
Tips to stay hydrated for seniors
Have you ever noticed how much water younger generations drink every day? Well, it turns out water has a lot of health benefits, but us older folk didnāt know that growing up.
Good hydration helps keep joints healthy, hydrates our skin, helps with digestion, blood pressure, heat exhaustion, exercise, concentration ā¦ the list goes on.
Here are a few tips to help you stay hydrated:
Carry a water bottleāfinding a place to grab a drink isnāt always easy. plus, if youāre in a restaurant you may be tempted by less healthy options. Unless you always have a bottle of water to sip on! Hereās a list of the best water bottles out there and another list of water bottles for loved ones with dementia.
Drink on a scheduleāweāre most in need of water in the morning, so try leaving a glass ready on your bedside table. You could also make a habit to drink at certain times of the day, or every time you come back home.
Liven up your waterāif you find water too bland, throw in some flavor! Chop up some cucumber, lemon, or other fruits and drop them in a water jug. Soon that water will taste like a delicious fruit cocktail and you wonāt be able to get enough of the stuff! Hereās a list of some great seltzers (though they all cost a lot more than tap water!).
If youāre drinking alcohol, replace a round with waterāwhile a cold beer feels thirst quenching, itās doing the opposite. Turn to water for a round or two to rehydrate.
Schedule bathroom breaks on long tripsāone of the reasons people donāt drink enough water is they donāt want to worry about finding a bathroom, so make sure any trips account for bathroom stops. Itās better than dehydration, especially in the summer months!
Cheers everyone! Hereās to healthy hydration!

āI WANTED to retire to Canada, but they wouldn't have me. Apparently old Americans are not welcome to become citizens because it puts a drain on their health care system.
