Ways to Volunteer as a Senior

Volunteering can be a rewarding way to fill our days with meaningful activities, socializing, and perhaps a bit of exercise.

No matter your interests, there are ways you can offer your time and knowledge for free. Here are a few ideas to get started:

  • Habitat for Humanity: did you work in the trades? Or are you a keen DIY-enthusiast? Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer organization that builds and repair homes for families in need, and advocates for more affordable housing.

  • National Park Service: if you’re a love of the great outdoors, help protect and promote our nation’s National Parks.

  • Become an AARP Driver Safety Volunteer: something for those who love driving safely, help organize and teach classroom courses in your area at locations such as community centers, hospitals and libraries.

  • 826 National Youth Writing: if you believe in the power of writing and stories to transform lives, you can help with the national youth literacy crisis.

  • Meals on Wheels: if you’re mobile and able to drive, help out your fellow housebound seniors by delivering a meal and giving a social call.

Have any great volunteer experiences to share? Simply respond to this email and we’ll post them next Sunday!
