Podcasts—are they for me?

You know how when you turn on the radio you listen to whatever’s on and just deal with it? And some days you just can’t find a song or segment you enjoy. But what if you could only listen to things you’re interested in?

That’s what podcasts are, basically: radio where you choose when and what to listen to.

Here’s a quick guide to why podcasts might be worth exploring:

  • You can listen anywhere—phone, tablet, computer, it doesn’t matter. On your phone you can use Apple Music, Spotify, Google Music, Amazon Music (all with paid subscriptions). Often, you can go to the podcast producer’s website and listen for free, too.

  • Listen in the car with ease—most modern cars will let you hook up your phone through bluetooth wireless or through a USB cable. Ask at the dealership or search on YouTube for your car make if you’re having trouble setting this up.

  • You can subscribe to podcasts you like—podcasts are usually released as a regular series. You can click “follow” on any of the apps you use. This will let you be notified when there are new episodes available. Here’s a guide on how to subscribe to podcasts.

  • There’s a podcast for everything—do you have a particular interest that no one understands but you? There’s a podcast for that. Google your interest, put the word “podcast” at the end, and something is bound to show up.

  • Pick up where you left off—if you pause a podcast, turn off your car, or close the app, your podcast app will remember where you stopped listening, just like when you stream a show. Handy for when you have to take a break!

If you think podcasts could be something you’re interested in, keep reading—especially if you’re interested in the Golden Age of Hollywood. We’ve got a great recommendation for you.

  • “I have always been fascinated with technology, even if it took me a little longer to learn. I always felt other counties were a head of us, now I feel like we have some leverage. It's a good thing. You have to get on board or get left behind. Not I.”

  • “It is the way our grandchildren will live by.”

  • “Saw an AI description of a old pressure cooker online and that told me AI has much to learn. It was described as ‘an old pot with coasters attached’.” Yes, AI descriptions can be … interesting - RH

  • “New ideas. More job opportunities I feel going forward.”

  • “I don’t trust it. Too many computers now that can’t fix a problem. We need people in customer service.”

Consider melatonin supplements—melatonin is sometimes recommended to help with sleep. But some studies show it does far more than that, potentially helping extend lifespans by reducing inflammation. The problem is, our bodies produce less of it as we age, so a supplement can help top things up. Remember to always speak to your doctor before trying a new supplement.

Word: “understood the assignment”

Definition: Mostly seen online, this is an assessment of someone doing what they were supposed to do exceptionally well. It is often used with comedic irony though. For example, if a cameraman at a sporting event captures an unusual situation in the crowd.

In a sentence: “Wow, that server really understood the assignment!”

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY
