It is Tuesday, May 14th, 2024
Dear RetireHub Daily Readers, welcome back to Tech Tuesday.
On this day in 1998, we said goodbye to “the show about nothing”, Seinfeld, starring comedian Jerry Seinfeld in a fictionalized version of his life in New York. 76 million people tuned in for the finale, making it the fourth most-watched finale in TV history. |

Top Healthcare Tech for Seniors
There’s a lot of technology out there these days. But for those of use who didn’t grow up on iPads and Google, tech can be a challenge.
Tech can also be an aid as we get older. And, because technology tends to get easier the longer it’s been around, even us older folk can pick it up with a little practice and an open mind.
Here are some top healthcare apps for seniors we’ve noticed:
Medisafe App—A tried and tested free medication reminder app that has great reviews. Gives medication scheduling reminders, warns about dangerous combinations of medications, and can be used by family members or caregivers for monitoring.
Mighty—A one-stop-shop for exercise, nutrition, and daily health for over 50s. Features joint-friendly workouts, personalized nutrition guides with recipes, and gentle health coaching to encourage positive lifestyle changes. Start for free, with memberships costing $29.00/month, or $179.99/year, but many health coverage plans can cover the cost.
GenieMD—this HIPAA-compliant app is a secure and simple way to store your medical history. Its app integrates with many medical devices, too, and you can access telehealth (remote medical consulations) services through it, too. Speak to your doctor about whether they are using GenieMD.
Gratitude—this one is simple but effective. Gratitude gives you prompts each day for you to journal about things you feel grateful for. Research has shown the power of gratitude to reduce feelings of stress, anxiety, and low moods.
These are just a few apps to explore. Remember that this isn’t professional medical advice, and neither is an app on its own—always speak to your healthcare provider for medical issues.
Yesterday’s Poll Results - Do you think social security benefits are clear to understand?
Just when you think life might become simpler when you retire, you have Social Security to navigate. Only 19% of RetireHub Daily readers find Social Security Benefits clear to navigate, with more (27%) finding them completely unclear. We hope our short guide yesterday helped clear things up a little!

Our Favorite Comments:
We love hearing and sharing comments from our polls! While we can’t publish them all, we do read and appreciate every comment.
“Plenty of loop holes hard to navigate on line & long waiting lines in physical offices no appointments.”
“I signed up 2.5 months ahead and did not get my first check till 4.5 months later.”
“There are so many different ways to claim the social security benefits. All the information is not often presented to people. I have talked to several people that claimed their benefit and later found out an option that would have benefited them more.”

SENIOR LIVING NEWS
I often toggled between staying on Facebook and quitting the social media platform. I know I’m not alone. We weigh the pros and cons. We pledge to spend less time scrolling through the lives of other people and more time living our own life.
To help you decide, I designed this handy-dandy flowchart as a guide.
Although you can apply for Social Security Disability Insurance at any age, as long as you have a qualifying condition, you’ll need to be at least 65 to be approved as a Medicare retiree.
Key Takeaways
•When you ask, “How old for Medicare eligibility?” the minimum age is 65.
•You may qualify for Medicare at any age if you’re receiving Social Security Disability Insurance.
•To receive premium-free Medicare A, you’ll need to meet some basic eligibility requirements.
LONGEVITY TIP OF THE DAY
Use smart tech—there are pros and cons to having more tech in our lives, and we’ve no doubt recommended you spend less time looking at screens. But health-monitoring tech like that used in the Apple Watch and others has already saved a few folks’ lives. Smartwatches are getting better at tracking our health, helping folks keep track of blood sugar, heart rate, and stress levels, all of which need to be kept in check for a long life.
Tech Word of the Day
Word: “DM”
Definition: “DM” is an abbreviation of “Direct Message/Messaging”. You can send someone a “DM” by sending them a message through an app. (Also see slang term “slide into someone’s DMs”, which refers to messaging someone on Instagram that you hope to date.)
Used in a Sentence: “I sent him a DM on Facebook but he didn’t respond.”
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY
Australia is filled with wild and wonderful critters, but few surpass the novelty of the Mary River turtle—which was once one of the continent’s most endangered.
Now however, the dedication of 800 residents in the town of Tiaro is seeing the turtle repopulate the river from which it draws its name, a point of pride for the locals, and the nation as they both celebrate a conservation win.
Michael Hoffen is a new author, and like him, the protagonist of his book is a teenager. But there’s quite an age gap between them—about 4,000 years.
Hoffen, who has been translating ancient texts since middle school, became fascinated by a 4,000-year-old or so piece of literature from ancient Egypt’s Middle Kingdom known as The Instruction of Khety, or The Satire of the Trades.
