And who is the killer? |

Tablet Tips: Making the Most of Your iPad or Android Device
Tablets have become one of the most versatile tools for seniors and lifelong learners alike. Whether you’re using an iPad or an Android tablet, these devices offer a comfortable screen size, intuitive interfaces, and endless ways to stay informed, entertained, and connected. With a few simple tips and tricks, you can turn your tablet into a powerful everyday companion that fits your lifestyle perfectly.
One of the biggest advantages of tablets is their adaptability. If reading is your passion, increase the text size, switch to dark mode for nighttime comfort, or try apps like Kindle, Libby, and Apple Books to borrow or buy titles instantly. Prefer watching movies or TV? Your tablet can become a portable entertainment hub—perfect for cozy evenings, travel days, or even propped up in the kitchen while you cook. And for those who enjoy learning, apps like YouTube, Coursera, and MasterClass provide high-quality classes at your fingertips.
Staying connected is easier than ever with a tablet. Video chat apps like FaceTime, Zoom, and Google Meet let you see the faces you love with just a tap. Many seniors find that using a tablet feels far more comfortable than navigating a tiny smartphone screen. You can also manage emails, browse social media, and follow news from trusted sources without straining your eyes.
A few small adjustments can make your device even more user-friendly. Turn on “Do Not Disturb” during quiet hours, use voice typing to compose messages without tapping, and customize your home screen so your most-used apps are easy to find. If you’re concerned about privacy or scams, both Apple and Android devices now offer robust security settings, including app permission controls and built-in alerts for suspicious activity.
Don’t forget productivity and creativity, too. Tablets can be fantastic digital notebooks, recipe organizers, photo albums, or even art studios. Styluses, detachable keyboards, and protective cases can expand what your device can do and make it feel more comfortable to use. And if you’re someone who loves keeping a routine, built-in reminders, calendars, and timers can help you stay organized with less effort.
Whether you’re a tech-savvy user or just getting comfortable with your device, tablets offer incredible flexibility. A few thoughtful settings and the right apps can turn them into tools that simplify life, spark creativity, and keep you connected to what matters.

TOP COMMENTS
“Having both fixed income which covers most of my expenditures and using little of the investment income, I am able to invest with more risk my IRA and other funds. This strategy allows for a 70/30 stocks to bonds ratio and has allowed an average 8.9% return per year since 2010. I realize the risk of a down market. I have been ale to increase the growth side enough to offset a 25% downmarket and still live comfortably and still make my charitable donations.”
“We are both on SS, she has a small pension and an inheritance that we only access when necessary, that is very variable.”
“We have a pension and social security. That’s it.”
Why Making Space for Yourself Matters — Especially After 60
As we age, carving out both physical and mental space becomes vital for peace, growth, and well-being. Creating personal space — whether quiet corners, uncluttered rooms, or moments of solitude — gives older adults a chance to reflect, reconnect with themselves, and nurture new interests without outside pressure. It’s not just about decluttering your home, but about clearing emotional and mental weight, letting go of old patterns, and opening up to possibility, purpose, and renewed energy.
