On this day in 1920, Prohibition officially began in the United States when the 18th Amendment went into effect, making the manufacture, sale, and transport of alcohol illegal nationwide. This era lasted 13 years and led to speakeasies, bootlegging, and the rise of organized crime—before being repealed in 1933.
Tackling Tech Neck and Screen Fatigue
If you’ve ever looked up from your phone, tablet, or computer and felt stiffness in your neck or a dull ache behind your eyes, you’re not alone. “Tech neck” and screen fatigue are common side effects of modern life, especially for those who enjoy staying connected, reading online, or video chatting with loved ones.
Tech neck happens when we tilt our heads forward for long periods. The human head weighs about 10–12 pounds, but when it’s tilted forward, the strain on the neck can feel like carrying 40–60 pounds. Over time, this posture can lead to soreness in the neck, shoulders, and upper back. Screen fatigue, on the other hand, shows up as tired eyes, blurry vision, headaches, or trouble focusing after too much screen time.
The good news is that small changes can make a big difference. Start by raising screens to eye level whenever possible. Whether you’re using a laptop, tablet, or phone, try to bring the screen up to you instead of bending your head down to it. When sitting, keep your feet flat on the floor, shoulders relaxed, and ears lined up over your shoulders.
Taking regular breaks is just as important. A simple rule to remember is the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. This gives your eyes a chance to relax. While you’re at it, gently roll your shoulders, stretch your arms, and slowly turn your head side to side to release tension.
Gentle movement throughout the day helps, too. Short walks, light stretching, or even standing up and moving around during phone calls can reduce stiffness. Simple neck stretches—like slowly tipping your head toward one shoulder, holding for a few seconds, then switching sides—can ease tight muscles.
Lighting also matters. Make sure your room is well lit so your eyes don’t have to strain. Reduce glare on screens by adjusting brightness and using curtains or blinds to block harsh sunlight. Many devices now offer “night mode” or “blue light” filters, which can feel easier on the eyes, especially in the evening.
Finally, listen to your body. If your neck feels sore or your eyes feel tired, that’s your cue to pause. Resting, stretching, or switching to an off-screen activity—like reading a physical book, doing a puzzle, or stepping outside—can help you reset.
Technology keeps us informed and connected, but comfort matters too. With better posture, regular breaks, and a few simple habits, you can enjoy your screens without paying the price in aches, pains, or tired eyes.

Yesterday’s Poll Results: What Matters Most in Your Travel Outfit?

Comfort clearly takes the crown when it comes to travel outfits. Stretchy waistbands and flexible fits led the pack, showing that ease of movement matters more than anything when people are on the go. Layers and style tied for second place, proving travelers still care about looking good and being ready for changing temperatures. Supportive shoes weren’t far behind, while breathable fabrics and easy-on pieces filled important supporting roles—rounding out a picture of travelers who want comfort first, but not at the expense of feeling put-together.

Why That “Burnout” Feeling Might Actually Be a Lack of Meaning — Not Exhaustion from Too Much
Many people label their tiredness as burnout when what they’re really experiencing is exhaustion from living a life that lacks personal meaning and purpose. Instead of being worn down by uncontrollable stress, they’re depleted by over-commitments, people-pleasing, and activities that don’t align with what truly energizes and fulfills them. Real relief comes not from quick fixes like self-care products or brief breaks, but from reevaluating priorities, saying no to draining obligations, and deliberately choosing things that nourish the heart and soul.

Good News of the Day
600-Year-Old Medieval Cargo Ship Unearthed — World’s Largest Cog Found Off Copenhagen
Maritime archaeologists have uncovered an exceptionally well-preserved medieval cargo ship, known as Svælget 2, buried beneath the seabed in the Øresund Strait between Denmark and Sweden — and it’s the largest known vessel of its kind ever discovered. The ship, roughly 92 feet long, 30 feet wide, and with a cargo capacity of about 300 tons, offers an unprecedented look into Northern Europe’s maritime trade and shipbuilding around the early 1400s, including remarkably intact timbers, rigging, and even crew artifacts. As researchers continue to study this extraordinary find, Svælget 2 is poised to reshape our understanding of how medieval trade networks operated and just how advanced naval engineering had become by the Late Middle Ages.
